Berhampur: The carcass of a female elephant was discovered on a hill in the Bhim Nagar forested area of Digapahandi forest range under Berhampur forest division on Thursday.
According to reports, this is the second death of a female elephant in the Digapahandi forest range within a month.
Forest officials have reached the spot and are investigating the matter, while a veterinarian is examining the carcass to determine the exact cause of death.
Notably, on January 3, another female elephant died in a sugarcane plantation near Dhepaguda village under the same forest range after getting trapped in an electric snare set up by poachers to catch wild boars. The Forest Department had arrested two persons in connection with the incident and forwarded them to court.
