Bhubaneswar: In an innovative initiative, women working in media and related fields in the state on Saturday launched ‘Odisha Women in Media’ – a platform that aims to safeguard and promote the interests of their members.
Over 100 women from media and related fields attended the inaugural function of this first-of-its-kind organisation in the state. Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mayor Sulochana Das and Odisha Commission for Women Chairperson Minati Behera attended the inaugural session at the Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan convention hall and unveiled the logo of the organisation.
Sulochana Das, who is a journalist-turned-politician, said the forum had fulfilled a long-felt requirement in the state. It will enable female media persons to discuss their professional issues and problems, she said.
Minati Behera congratulated the members of ‘Odisha Women in Media’ for their initiative in realising the forum and expressed hope that it will grow into a huge organisation. She said, “There is a need for more women to enter the field of media”.
‘Odisha Women in Media’ will work towards upholding moral values and gender equality, in addition to endeavouring to ensure the development and empowerment of women and protect their professional rights.
