**Bhubaneswar** In a bizarre incident, a team of doctors led by Dr Manas Ranjan Pradhan found female reproductive organs inside a male’s body while operating for a cancerous tumor.
32-year-old married man from West Bengal is married for the last seven years and was undergoing treatment for infertility at local hospitals there. He was referred to Kalinga Hospital after he experienced swelling of lower abdomen accompanied by severe pain.
Speaking to OMMCOM NEWS, Dr Pradhan informed, “We conducted a CT scan and found that he has an undescended testicle on his right with a tumor arising from it. But there was no sign of female organs. It was during the operation that we noticed the mass. And to our surprise, it was a uterus with ovaries which means he is a fully grown man with both female and male organs inside his body. We sent him for biopsy and got a confirmation that these were indeed female organs. And the reports of the hormonal study revealed that this individual had high levels of both male and female hormones.”
“In majority of the cases of hermaphrodites, they are bisexuals or eunuchs but a fully grown male with female organs leading a normal sexual life and having cancer is very rare. Less than 10 such cases have been reported so far. We have successfully removed the cancerous tumour and the female organs from his body. Although he won’t be able to bear children due to his hormonal imbalance but he can lead a normal life”
The patient would be under constant observation to monitor if the cancer resurfaces.
