Bhubaneswar: A fierce encounter broke out between the Special Operation Group (SOG) jawans and outlawed Maoist cadres in the Nalikumpa jungles under Manamunda police station limits in Odisha’s Boudh district on Tuesday morning.
According to reports, the firing and counter-firing began during a combing operation launched by the SOG jawans in the area. Acting on a tip-off, the SOG jawans undertook the combing operation in the Nalikuma jungles this morning, and seeing the approaching jawans, the Maoists opened fire. The jawans retaliated the firing, which was continued till the time of filing this report.
The jawans have reportedly busted a Maoist dump in the jungle and seized explosives, weapons, and several items belonging to the ultras,
In the last few months, there have been periodic encounters between the Naxalites and the security forces in the region. A detailed report is awaited.
