Fight Against COVID-19: Face Masks Become Mandatory Across Odisha

Bhubaneswar: With the rise in the number of positive COVID-19 cases, the State government has made wearing of face masks compulsory across Odisha. The step has been taken as a precautionary measure to control the spread of coronavirus, said an order issued by Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy.

Masks have been found to be extremely useful in controlling and containment of the spread of novel coronavirus as seen from several global and national experiences, read the order dated April 6.

“The general public is directed to cover their mouth and nose with any available form of mask white stepping out of the house for any purpose. A handkerchief or any other piece of cloth in at least two layers can also be used for the purpose, until further orders,” the order issued by the Revenue and Disaster Management Department added.

The District Municipal Authorities have been directed to check crowds and enforce social distancing. Besides, the district authorities will have to ensure that people who are stepping out of houses, cover their faces with masks or handkerchief, dupatta, towel or similar type of clothes.

Disposable or single-use masks shall be properly disposed of by following the due procedure prescribed by Health & Family Welfare Department. Cloth masks should be cleaned with soap/ detergent, disinfectant and water and sun-dried for at least 5 hours after every single use.

Masks used by one person must not be used by any other person, the notification added.
