Fight For Mahanadi Waters Is Not Only Of BJD, But Of Entire Odisha: CM Naveen Patnaik

**Jharsuguda:** As Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik launched the fortnight long agitation ‘Mahanadi Surakshya Yatra’ from Sukhasoda village in Lakhanpur block of Jharsuguda, where Mahanadi enters Odisha from Chhattisgarh, he exhorted the people of Odisha and political parties to rise above politics and join hands in this campaign.

Addressing the inaugural rally, CM Patnaik said, “Mahanadi is the lifeline of Odisha, our Mother and we cannot think of Odisha without Mahanadi waters. The attitude of the BJP at the Centre and in Chhattisgarh is anti-Odisha. And the BJP leaders of Odisha are supporting their party in Chhattisgarh and are just shedding crocodile tears. If the BJP leaders of Odisha really empathise with the people, they should stand up against the Chhattisgarh government as we are fighting for the cause of the people.

He further said, “During summers, the quantity of water inflow is very less in Odisha due to the construction of barrages. The Rabi crops will be affected and the fishermen will suffer.”

He concluded his address by saying, “Mahanadi is the pride and glory of Odisha. We will not let it to dry at any cost. It is not just a fight of BJD, but of whole Odisha , for the future generation. So, I exhort all the political parties to rise above politics and come together to put up a fight for Mahanadi waters.”

This is the second phase of agitation over Mahanadi river water dispute, which will continue for around a fortnight.

CM Naveen Patnaik first visited the river banks and interacted with the local people before reaching the venue to flag off the campaign.
