Rourkela: Authorities of Fédération Internationale de Hockey (FIH) or International Hockey Federation today inspected the ongoing construction of the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium at the Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) campus in Rourkela.
FIH’s Acting President Seif Ahmed, CEO Thierry Well, Hockey India CoA members SY Quraishi, and Zafer Iqbal, IDCO Chamber Hemant Sharma, and Odisha’s Sports Secretary R. Vineel Krishna, visited the stadium and inspected the progress of work.
Odisha is the host of the 2023 Men’s Hockey World Cup. The world cup matches will be held jointly at Kalinga Hockey Stadium Bhubaneswar and this state-of-the-art facility (Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium) at Rourkela.
The Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium is being developed at Rourkela with a seated capacity of 20,000 spectators. This will be the largest hockey stadium in India. Astro Turf will be laid at the stadium as per the standards of the International Hockey Federation.
