Bhubaneswar: The inaugural match of the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup-2023 will be played in Rourkela on January 13.
“The Hockey World Cup’s inaugural match will be played at Rourkela on January 13. A grand function will be organized there,” informed Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra today.
Mahapatra said that work on the hockey stadium is almost complete.
The Chief Secretary said that different departments are carrying out different work be it sports infrastructure or traffic management, and everything will be completed much ahead of the commencement of the World Cup, and added that things are being constantly reviewed.
He informed that functions have been planned in different cities of the State both before and during the Hockey World Cup.
“Apart from the function to be held in Rourkela for the inaugural match of the Hockey World Cup on January 13, a grand function has been planned at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on January 11 which will be attended by around 40,000 people,” the Chief Secretary stated.
Further, events have been planned in every panchayat, every village, and every school to create sports fervor among the populace of the State, he added.
Mahapatra said, “Hockey World Cup trophy which is currently touring different States will be carried to different districts in a ceremonial procession. I am sure the World Cup will be a grand show and every individual of our State will get connected”.
