Bhubaneswar: As many as 83 cases were registered against petrol pumps in Odisha for discrepancies in weight measurement and a total fines amounting to Rs 10,66,000 were realised following raids during the last three financial years of 2020-21, 2021-22 and 2022-23, informed Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak in the Odisha Assembly on Wednesday.
Replying to a query from Remuna MLA Sudhanshu Sekhar Parida, Minister Nayak said that a slew of stringent measures are being taken by oil marketing companies to check adulteration at filling stations in the state.
Nayak informed that oil companies check the quality of petrol and diesel and weight measurements at retail filling stations every quarter. In case any irregularity is observed samples are collected and sent to laboratories for the next action, he added.
The Minister said that Multi-Disciplinary Teams constituted by PSU Oil Marketing Companies comprising of officers of other departments conduct surprise raids on retailers/filling stations at regular intervals.
Quality Assurance Cell and Vigilance of PSU Oil Marketing Companies conduct surprise checks at retail filling stations, he added.
He said that mobile laboratories of Oil Companies collect oil samples every month for testing purposes.
Three oil marketing companies IOC, BPC and HPC also jointly conduct surprise checks at fuel filling stations, he added.
He further said that in the event of any complaint related to adulteration, officers of the Oil Companies conduct a probe.
