Bhubaneswar: A major fire broke out at Nalabana bird sanctuary in the Chilika Lake on Saturday.
According to reports, it being summer dry reeds caught fire near the Kalupada Ghat jetty.
The inferno spread to acres while efforts were underway to douse it. Several fishing cats and birds are feared dead due to the fire.
