Angul: A fire broke out at Unit-5 of Captive Power Plant (CPP) of NALCO (National Aluminium Company) in Angul today morning. However, there has been no injury to any person.no injury to any person.
The fire originated from Unit 5 of CPP. While four of the capacitor banks were demolished in the fire, another eight were partially destroyed.
The employees alleged that Unit 5 was not adequately maintained and hence the accident.
The smoke from the fire was first noticed at about 7.30 am today. After getting informed, the NALCO fire service was successful in completely extinguishing the fire and did not allow it to spread to adjoining area and machinery.
While the exact cause is yet to ascertained, an internal short circuit is suspected to be the cause behind the accident.
NALCO administration is inspecting the level of damage the fire did.
