Bhubaneswar: A major fire broke out at the dedicated Sadguru COVID Hospital at Jagatpur in Cuttack, reports said.
According to Fire Department sources, all the 127 Covid-19 patients undergoing treatment at the hospital have been evacuated safely.
Arrangements are being made to shift them to other hospitals, the sources added.
Fire tenders have rushed to the site and efforts are on to douse the blaze.
Cuttack Municipal Commissioner Ananya Das, Commissioner of Police Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Sudhansu Sarangi, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Cuttack Prateek Singh and several other officials of the district administration have rushed to the site of the fire and are supervising shifting of patients to other hospitals in Cuttack.
Priority is being accorded to shifting of patients who were undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital.
Private ambulances have also been deployed in the task of shifting patients. As many as 40 ambulances have been deployed in shifting of patients.
Electric short circuit in a faulty air conditioner at the ICU is suspected to be the reason behind the cause of the fire.
“We are shifting serious patients to different Covid Hospitals including SUM Covid Hospital at Bhubaneswar and asymptomatic or patients with mild symptoms will be shifted to the Covid Care Centre at Driems College,” informed Anil Samal, Revenue Divisional Commissioner (Central) who was present at the Sadguru Covid Hospital overseeing the evacuation of patients.
