Balasore: A fire broke out in a freight train carrying coal. This incident was reported from Rupusa railway station under the South Eastern Railway jurisdiction today morning.
The goods train from West Bengal to Balasore had halted at Rupsa station for getting a couple of defective wagons repaired. The train was carrying coal and was stationed there for over a month at this place, on May 11, to be precise.
On Friday night, station personnel spotted smoke billowing out of a wagon and alerted the authorities. They also managed to control the fire by sprinkling water.
However, today morning the smoke intensified following which the Fire department was informed.
Firefighters were pressed into service and the blaze was contained. All the coal will be removed from the affected wagon, the station manager said and added that the situation was under control.
