Jatni: A devastating fire broke out in a garments store in the Raja Bazaar area of Jatni town, Khurda district, on Friday afternoon, claiming the life of the shop owner and causing significant property damage.
According to reports, the incident occurred around 3 p.m. at Surya Mohapatra’s garments store. The blaze quickly engulfed the shop, reducing garments worth lakhs of rupees to ashes.
Local residents immediately alerted the Fire Service, and firefighters, with assistance from locals, worked tirelessly to bring the fire under control.
Surya Mohapatra, who was rescued from the burning shop in critical condition, was rushed to a hospital in Bhubaneswar. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, and a joint investigation by the police and Fire Service has been launched to determine the source of the blaze.
