Bhubaneswar: A fire broke out in a compartment of the 12074 Bhubaneswar-Howrah Jan Shatabdi Express at Cuttack station on Thursday morning creating panic among the passengers. As a result, the train was detained at the Cuttack railway station from 6.30 am to about 7.15 am, East Coast Railway said in an official release today.
The fire was first noticed under a compartment by people waiting for trains at the Cuttack station. The fire was spotted after people saw smoke coming out of the brake shoe of the train. No casualty was reported as there was no fire inside the compartment.
Fire Services men soon extinguished the fire and the train left for its destination at around 7.15 am.
The fire was caused due to brake-binding (brake not released from the wheel). The ECoR authorities are investigating the cause of the non-release of the brake.
