Baripada: Amidst the rising number of fire breakouts across the state, another incident occurred at a private hospital under the Town police station limits in Baripada district on Monday.
According to reports, the fire mishap started due to a short circuit in the ICU duty room on the second floor of a private hospital at 4 am.
After being informed, the Firefighters promptly responded to the incident and helped extinguish the spreading fire.
Addressing the media persons, Assistant Fire Officer Biswanath Munda said, “After getting information we immediately arrived on the spot, and exhausted the excessive smoke caused by the fire outbreak. It took us a bit of time to completely exhaust the smoke, as it had widely spread. We have successfully cleared the smoke and fire.”
Adding on more, he said, “All patients and staff are completely safe, and we have evacuated 4 patients. The short circuit had occurred from the AC connection. Further investigation into the matter will give clear details about the reason for the mishap.”
In a similar incident on Saturday, a fire broke out in the ICU on the third floor of a private nursing home near Purighat Police Station in Cuttack district.
About 45 patients narrowly escaped the inferno caused by a short circuit. However, a seven-day-old child who was shifted to Sishu Bhawan after the incident died on Sunday while undergoing treatment.
Following the mishap, the Odisha Health & Family Welfare (H&FW) Department suspended the empanelment of the private hospital under the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY).
