Cuttack: Joint force of Odisha Fire Services and the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) conducted a mock drill at the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) office here, today. The prime purpose was to create awareness and teach basic manoeuvres to take appropriate action in any untoward situation.
The officials at the Biju Bhawan, the CMC office, too actively took part in the mock drill. The Fire Services and ODRAF team of over 30 members demoed various situations where and how people are rescued. Additionally, they also showed what to do in case we have a fire at home or fire; and the action depending on the kind of fire.
Apprising the media, CMC Commissioner Ananya Das said, “We simulated various scenarios in the mock drill and showed the various stages of rescue and handling. This was part of a program called Disaster Response Program in collaboration with the UNDP. We started it in our office so that our officials are informed on how to handle different classes of fire and how to handle it accordingly. We are also planning to bring in a Fire Consultant to bring in necessary structural changes.”
She said that today’s program can be dubbed as largely beneficial for not just the CMC officials but general public as well.
Assistant Fire Officer Abani Kumar Swain too shared his experience. He said, “This novel step was taken to eradicate the fear of fire in people’s minds. Today’s mock drill was aimed at educating people to handle fire at homes or offices before the Fire Service officials arrive.”
A volunteer Sonalisha Mohanty too shared her happiness at today’s educating experience. She vowed that she will pass on this knowledge to her family.
