Nuapada: In a dramatic rescue operation, a woman was rescued by the firefighters from drowning in the Udanti River, flowing through the Sinapali block of Nuapada district, on Sunday.
As per reports, the woman, identified as Namita Sahu of Gadaramal village, was bathing at the river bank, when her leg slipped, causing her to fall into the strong current. On not being able to swim back to the shore, she screamed for help, alerting the farmers working in the nearby farming fields.
Upon hearing her screams, the farmers promptly informed the firefighting officials of Sinapali block, who rushed to the scene to rescue Namita.
After a gruelling effort, the firefighters were able to rescue her from drowning, approximately three kilometres away from the bathing ghat.
On being rescued safely, Namita was quickly taken to the Sinapali Community Health Centre (CHC) for treatment.
Fortunately, her condition is reported to be stable, and she is expected to make a full recovery.
