Cuttack: A fisherman sustained critical injuries to head and legs after falling into the barrage on Mahanadi at Jobra in Cuttack on Tuesday.
A resident of Jobra Majhi Sahi, Tutu Dash was fishing near the first gate of the barrage and slipped down accidentally.
Locals immediately informed the fire services personnel who rushed to the spot and started operation rescue.
“We were informed that a person accidentally fell into the barrage of gate no. 1. Our team rushed to the spot and learned that a fisherman fell down while fishing. He was found trapped in the iron railing of the barrage with head injuries. Immediately we rescued him alive with the help of our rope ladder and sent him to SCB Medical College and hospital,” a fire officer said.
The fisherman suffered critical injuries to the head and leg, he added.
It is worth mentioning that entry into the barrage site is restricted. Still, the fishermen are found fishing in the restricted zone by flouting safety norms.
