Berhampur: A fisherman drowned and two others escaped narrowly after a fishing boat on which they were fishing overturned in the Bay of Bengal off Gopalpur coast in Ganjam district on Saturday.
The deceased identified as B Bairagi (63) is a resident of Gopalpur. Two other fellow fishermen- M Balaraju and M Simudu managed to swim ashore.
The incident occurred on the wee hours of Saturday when the boat was hit by a strong sea current and overturned on Bairagi. He was rescued in a critical condition and rushed to MKCG medical College and Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Bairagi’s wife lodged a complaint with police in this regard.
