Bhubaneswar: A fisherman went missing while six others managed to swim to safety after a fishing boat carrying them capsized off the Podampeta coast in Ganjam district Thursday morning.
The missing fisherman has been identified as A Kaleya, a resident of San Nolia Nuagaon under Chhatrapur block.
According to reports, Kaleya set out to sea with six others to catch fish at 4 am on Thursday morning. However, as they entered the sea near Podampeta, the boat lost its balance and capsized within a short time, throwing all seven fishermen into the water. While six of them managed to swim back to the boat, Kaleya couldn’t make it.
Despite rescue operation launched by Indian Coast Guard and local officials to trace the missing fisherman, no trace of the missing fisherman has been found so far.
Chhatrapur MLA Krushnachandra Nayak visited the site after learning about the incident, met with authorities, and reassured local residents that the administration is working diligently on the rescue operation.
