Bhubaneswar: A massive fire broke out at Talpada village in Remuna block in Balasore district, engulfing and destroying approximately five acres of harvested paddy belonging to four farmers.

According to reports, the blaze was sparked when an 11KV overhead power line snapped and fell onto the paddy stacks. The fire broke out late on Friday night when harvested paddy was kept stacked in agricultural fields for drying.

As per reports, five farmers, who incurred huge losses due to the fire mishap, have been identified as Pitambar Barik, Sushant Dash, Shambhunath Barik and Jadunath Mallick. The affected farmers said the destroyed paddy represented nearly a year’s worth of hard work and investment.
