Rourkela: In a swift action, Rourkela police on Sunday arrested five persons in connection with the stabbing of a tea seller near Rourkela railway station on Friday night.
The deceased has been identified as 30-year-old Abhinas Yadav.
According to Rourkela Superintendent of Police (SP) Nitesh Wadhwani, Yadav was on his way to a nearby community toilet around 9:30 pm when he was attacked by assailants armed with sharp weapons. He was rushed to a private hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
SP Wadhwani said the police, acting quickly, apprehended all five accused within 24 hours of the incident.
“Three men went to the spot to carry out the attack, while two others assisted them in escaping. Investigations have revealed that the murder was driven by past enmity,” he added.
The SP further informed that the weapons used in the attack have been seized, along with the accused’s smartphones and the vehicles used during their escape. He also revealed that four of the arrested persons are hardened offenders with previous criminal records, including cases under the NDPS Act and other offences.
The police are continuing their investigation to determine if others were involved and to gather more evidence regarding the motive and planning of the attack.
