Bhubaneswar: In a shocking case of fraud under the Udala Police jurisdiction, five individuals, including a government lawyer, were arrested for orchestrating a scheme to siphon off the pension of a deceased CISF jawan.
The conspiracy was masterminded by the jawan’s sister-in-law, Somabari, and his nephew, Nilam Singh. They allegedly forged documents, including a fake divorce certificate, and even produced fraudulent court orders to claim the pension.
The deceased jawan, Jadunath Singh, served as a Head Constable in the CISF and passed away in 2023. Following his death, the conspirators created a false narrative by forging documents that dissolved his actual marriage and fabricated evidence to suggest that he had married his sister-in-law.
Advocate Rabin Kumar revealed that the fraudsters altered a judgment copy from an unrelated case, replacing names to make it appear as though the jawan’s marriage had been dissolved. Using these falsified records, they secured a marriage certificate for the sister-in-law and fraudulently collected Rs 20 lakh from Jadunath’s pension.
The scam came to light when a lawyer uncovered irregularities and filed a complaint, prompting the police to launch an investigation.
Udala Police have arrested five individuals involved in the scheme: Banamali Singh, Bijay Patra (a computer shop owner), Somabari, Nilam Singh, and government lawyer Pratima Sahu, who aided in forging the documents.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to recover the siphoned funds and identify any further accomplices.
