Bhubaneswar: Five persons including four minors died, while an equal number of persons were injured, in separate wall collapse incidents following incessant rainfall across Odisha.
Two sisters identified as Niharika Giri (12) and Suru Giri (4) died after the wall of their house collapsed on them at Bholabeda village under Bisoi block in Balasore district in the wee hours of Saturday.
Reportedly, they were fast asleep with their parents when the incident occurred. Their father Anil Giri and mother were critically injured and are undergoing treatment at Rairangpur Sub Divisional Hospital.
In Balasore district, one student died while two others sustained critical injuries when a school wall collapsed on them at Madhupura village under Baliapala block. Another nine-year-old boy died after a bathroom wall collapsed on him at Nuasahi of PHD Colony in Koraput district.
Similarly, a woman died due to a wall collapse at Tikarapada village in Keonjhar. Her husband was critically injured and was later admitted to a local hospital.
