Paradip: Five persons have been arrested for allegedly stealing a truck after pushing its driver into the Mahanadi river in Paradip area of Jagatsinghpur district.
The accused persons have been identified as Hukam Singh (26) and Harpal Singh (26) of Uttar Pradesh, Amzad Khan (46), Jogeswara Barik (28), and Sk Bilaluddin (22) of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj. The driver identified as Sahdab Alam is still missing.
Sahdab had brought a trailer truck of goods from Vadodara to Paradip Refinery and was in contact with his family till August 20. As his family was not able to contact him after August 21, his father lodged a complaint at Abhayachandapur Police Station near Paradip Refinery on August 26.
During the investigation, it was revealed that on the intervening night of August 21 and 22, Hukam and Harpal, the driver and helper of another truck, and the missing driver Sahdab had consumed alcohol.
When Sahdab became inebriated, both the accused put him inside his truck and left Paradeep. On the way, at Bhutumundai Bridge, both Harpal and Hukam pushed Sahdab into the deluged water of Mahanadi river and fled away with the truck.
On August 23, they reached the eatery shop of accused Amzad at Biasinga in Mayurbhanj. Amzad concealed the truck in the forest of Deuli Dam with the connivance of Jogeswar and Bilaluddin with the intention to dismantle the truck.
However, the truck was noticed by Chandua Police and handed over to its original owner after proper verification. All the accused persons were arrested yesterday i.e. on September 27.
