Bhubaneswar: In a major breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking, Maitri Vihar Police on Wednesday seized 254 grams of brown sugar and arrested five individuals allegedly involved in the illegal narcotics trade in the capital city.
The seizure, which also included three motorcycles and Rs 3,000 in cash, was part of a special anti-drug drive being carried out by the Commissionerate Police of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack to crack down on brown sugar peddlers across the twin cities.
Preliminary investigation revealed that two of the arrested individuals already have criminal cases pending against them at multiple police stations within the Commissionerate Police jurisdiction. All five accused are currently being interrogated for further leads on the network of drug suppliers and buyers.
