Bhubaneswar: As many as five members of a family sustained injuries as a mud house collapsed. Heavy rainfall caused the house to crumble, trapping the family under debris. The incident occurred in the village of Dahukbuda under the Dunguripali police station in Subarnapur district in the wee hours of Thursday.
The critically injured family members include Sushil Padhan, his wife Basturi Padhan, their daughter Ritika Padhan, son Kris Padhan, and their 18-month-old son Arnab Padhan.
Sushil worked as a labourer to support his family. On the fateful night, the family members were asleep after dinner when the house collapsed due to heavy rainfall, trapping them under the debris. After hearing their cries, villagers rushed to the spot and informed the fire department, according to the report.
On a tip-off, firefighters immediately reached the village and rescued the family members trapped under the debris. They were then taken to the Dunguripali Community Health Centre in an ambulance, where they are undergoing treatment. Their condition is reported to be stable.
It is learnt that Sushil, despite being from a very poor background, has not been allotted a concrete house under the government scheme. Demands are now being made to provide immediate government assistance to Sushil’s family.
