Sundargarh: Five persons, including three women, were killed while four others were injured in a group clash between locals and a nomadic group over an alleged love affair in Karamdihi area under Odisha’s Sundargarh Sadar police limits on Tuesday night.
According to reports, the attackers captured a woman and two children as ransom and fled the area. Soon after the incident, police launched a manhunt for the accused and formed a team comprising the Sadar SDPO, five IICs and four platoons of police force to track down and arrest the killers
The Western DIG and Sundargarh SP visited the Sundargarh District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) where the injured are admitted and conducted an investigation.
Reports said that a group of nomadic people from the Wardha region of Maharashtra have been camping in the Karamdihi area for the last few months. The first wife of Avinash Pawar, one of the nomadic people, left him to live with someone else. After this, Avinash married again and started living with his second wife. He has a son from the first wife and two children from the second wife, who reportedly had a dispute with some locals.
At around 11.00 pm on Tuesday, some people attacked the nomadic group with machete while everyone was sleeping. As a result, five people, including three women, died on the spot, while Avinash and another woman. Two children also sustained injuries in the attack.
After the incident, the attackers fled with Avinash’s second wife and two children. On receiving the information, the Sadar police reached the clash site and launched a search operation to arrest the attackers. It is learnt that the police are currently conducting raids in various areas to arrest the attackers.
