Bhubaneswar: As many as five persons were killed in two separate incidents in Ganjam and Rayagada districts.
In the first incident, three bike riders were killed when a truck hit them near Mahanala village under Pattapur police limits in Ganjam district. The victims were identified as Ashwini Kumar Dora, Balakrishna Reddy, and Kalia Behera, all residents of Digapahandi block.
The accident occurred late Wednesday night when a truck hit the bike they were riding on.
In a separate incident, two persons died, and one was seriously injured when a tipper lost balance and crashed into a tree on the main road in Bhaleri village under Gunupur police limits in Rayagada district.
The deceased were identified as Aliksh Patika and Ajay Palaka, both residents of Arjunguda village.
As per reports, the tipper met with an accident while returning after unloading sand in Gunupur in the wee hours of Thursday. The victims were promptly rescued and taken to Gunupur Sub-Divisional Hospital, where two of them were declared dead.
However, the driver of the tipper, who was seriously injured, was shifted to Rayagada District Headquarters Hospital.
