Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert in five districts of Odisha, warning of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.
Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak and Gajapati have been issued an orange alert.
According to the IMD, these districts are likely to experience heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning, with wind speeds reaching up to 50-60 km/h. The alert has been issued for the next 24 hours.
Additionally, a yellow warning has been issued for 13 districts, including Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Puri, Jajpur, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Sundargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri. These districts may experience thunderstorms and lightning, with wind speeds reaching up to 40-50 km/h.
The IMD has also predicted that some areas of Boudh, Kandhamal, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Subarnapur, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, and Nabarangapur districts may experience rain with lightning.
Residents are advised to take necessary precautions and stay indoors during the thunderstorms.
