Five Retired Officials Convicted For Misappropriating Govt Funds

Bhubaneswar: A significant judgment was delivered by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Baripada, convicting five retired officials for misappropriating government money amounting to Rs.37,08,708/-.

The convicted individuals include Gouranga Charan Mohanty, OAS, Former Special Land Acquisition Officer, Subarnarekha Irrigation Project, and four retired Bank of India officials: Akhandal Prasad Mohanty,  Purusotom Mohanty,  Sudam Chandra Sahoo, and Santanu Kumar Kar.

The officials were found guilty of forging documents and violating bank norms, leading to the misappropriation of government funds. The court sentenced each convict to 3 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 50,000. Following the conviction, Odisha Vigilance will move to stop the pension of the convicted officials.
