Police also seized four mobile phones, 40 gold chains, and four expensive motorcycles from them.

The looters have confessed to their crime, Police Commissioner Sanjeev Panda informed at a press meet.

The Ayushman gang comprising five members mostly committed crimes on the NH by riding high-end motorcycles. They are mostly involved in chain snatching from commuters on the highways, Panda said.

They were earlier forwarded to jail in multiple cases. After being released on bail, they returned to their crime world and were active in Bhubaneswar for the last four months, the Commissioner added.

They were involved in 24 gold chain snatching cases in different police stations of Bhubaneswar.

“They used to commit the crime on Bhubaneswar-Ganjam, Bhubaneswar-Puri and Bhubaneswar-Bhadrak highways. We have so far recovered 40 gold chains weighing 400 grams, Rs 2 lakh cash and four high-end motorcycles from them,” Panda told reporters.
