Bhubaneswar: Five school students sustained critical injuries after a brick-laden tractor hit an auto-rickshaw they were travelling by at Palaspur under Patapur police station limits in Ganjam district on Thursday morning.

All five injured students have been admitted to a local health facility for treatment.

According to reports, the ill-fated auto-rickshaw was transporting the students from Jura Rangpur in Sanakhemudi to the Adarsha Vidyalaya at Chhanameri when the tractor hit it near the Kali Temple at Palaspur.

On being informed, police rushed to the spot and took the students to Digapahandi hospital. As the injuries of a few students were critical, they have been shifted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.

Tension prevailed in the area after the accident and locals staged a road blockade.

The police seized the two vehicles involved in the mishap and started an investigation.
