Nabarangapur: A five-year-old boy was allegedly killed by a 14-year-old minor at Krushnaguda village under Papadahandi police station in Nabarangapur district on Friday.
According to the police, Majesh Mahuria went missing at 9 am today. His parents searched every house in the village, and when they entered the abandoned hut, they found the accused 14-year-old boy hiding there. As they entered, the boy escaped and locked himself in his house. To their very surprise, they found him dead in the abandoned hut. The victim’s body bore injury marks, and a sharp weapon was lying nearby.
Police said that the motive behind the murder appears to be a dispute over Rs 4,000 that went missing from the victim’s father. The accused minor was suspected of stealing the money, and the dispute escalated, leading to the murder.
The police have registered a case and are investigating the matter. The minor has been taken into custody by the police.
The forensic team has also visited the crime scene and collected evidence. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
Police said the accused, being a minor, will be dealt with under the Juvenile Justice Act. The police are conducting further investigation to determine the exact circumstances leading to the murder.
