Bhubaneswar: People of Rairangpur in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district will soon be able to avail of flight service to Amikapur in neighbouring Chhattisgarh.
According to a notification issued by the Civil Aviation Ministry, Rairangpur will be connected to Ambikapur by air via Rourkela following the introduction of a passenger flight service. The Dandbose airstrip on the outskirts of Rairangpur town has been included as part of the ‘Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik’ (UDAN) regional airport development programme.
Initially, a 19-seater scheduled flight will shuttle between Rairangpur and Ambikapur. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has written this to Big Charter Private Limited. It is worth mentioning here that on March 3, the Union government’s Project Evaluation Committee (PEC) approved the fund allocation for this.
Meanwhile, the government plans to develop the Dandbose airstrip at an estimated cost of around Rs 45 crore under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) of the Centre. The project will include a flight terminal building and other amenities for the passengers.
