Bhubaneswar: Flood is expected in Subarnarekha and Budhabalanga rivers of Odisha in the next 30 hours, informed Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradeep Kumar Jena on Saturday.
As per reports, seven gates of Galudih Barrage in Jharkhand have been opened in view of heavy rainfall in the State. Around 13,000 cumec or 4 lakh cusec of water is being released through the barrage.
The water may reach Odisha in the next 30 hours. In view of this, a flood is anticipated in Subarnarekha river. There are chances of a minor-level flood in Budhabalanga river also, said Jena.
While media has reported five deaths due to wall collapse across the State, only four deaths have been confirmed. One each in Balasore and Keonjhar and two in Mayurbhanj, he added.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh, and Bargarh today.
Besides, heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Angul, Nuapada, Koraput, Rayagada, and Nawarangpur.
