Bhubaneswar: The flood situation in Odisha has shown significant improvement, with water levels in major rivers like Subarnarekha and Baitarani dropping below the danger mark.

Chandrashekhar Padhi, Engineer-in-Chief of the Water Resources Department, said the state’s flood situation is under control, except for some areas affected by breaches in river embankments.

Dasharathpur in Jajpur district has been impacted due to a breach in the Kani river, a tributary of Baitarani. Repairs are planned once the water recedes, and the district administration is working closely with the Water Resources Department to monitor the situation. Night patrolling is underway to ensure safety.

Water discharge continues at various dams, including Hirakud, where 98,000 cusecs of water is being released through four gates. At Mundali in Cuttack, 3.31 lakh cusecs of water are being discharged. Brahmani water is being released through two gates in Rengali, with plans to close one gate if necessary.

The Water Resources Department remains vigilant, closely monitoring the situation and prepared to respond to any further developments, particularly if rain occurs tomorrow. The reduction in water levels offers relief to affected communities, and efforts are underway to drain water from flooded areas.
