Bhubaneswar: Several parts in the downstream of Mahanadi basin have been inundated following breaches in the river embankments. The historic Bhatarika temple in Baramba has submerged while locals of Sankhameri in Baramba have been shifted to a nearby high school following a breach in the Mahanadi embankment.
In Banki sub-division of Cuttack district, 12 villages have been marooned and communication snapped to a couple of localities.
The local administration has started by evacuating people from low-lying areas. Around 400 people have been evacuated to four schools in Tirtol block of Jagatsinghpur district.
Similarly, evacuation was carried out in Nayagarh, Sonepur, Boudh, and Cuttack districts.
On the other hand, the water inflow into Hirakud reservoir by 6 pm was 9.21 lakh cusec while outflow through 26 gates was 4.51 lakh cusec.
At 9 pm tonight, more than 10.73 lakh cusec flood water was flowing through Mundali barrage on Mahanadi in Cuttack, reports stated.
