Bhubaneswar: The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is considering a proposal to construct a foot over bridge connecting Sahid Nagar and Satsang Vihar localities of the Capital City.
The proposed footover bridge (FOB) which will connect two arterial residential and commercial localities will pass over the National Highway 16. The FOB will be built between Sahid Nagar and Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Park near Satsang Vihar.
Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi had written to the NHAI and placed a demand for a FOB on this stretch. Earlier this month, the NHAI has responded the Sarangi’s proposal and sought a detailed estimate, design and drawing for the project.
There has been a long-standing demand of the people of these two localities for a FOB. As a busy NH 16 bisects the city (Sahid Nagar and Satsang Vihar), FOBs are an essential element for people to cross the road.
Currently, the general commuters and pedestrians face difficulty in crossing over to either side. One has to take a long roundabout to reach either Satsang Vihar side or the Sahid Nagar side from Vani Vihar square or the Rasulgarh square.
The Lok Sabha Member from Bhubaneswar thanked NHAI for responding to her request. “Am glad that a long pending demand of people of my Bhubaneswar Constituency is met. The construction of a Foot Overbridge for Rs 1.25 crore between Saheed Nagar & Satsang Vihar. Grateful to the NHAI for responding to my request,” she stated.
