Puri: A foreign tourist allegedly attacked a servitor and police personnel while attempting to enter Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri on Saturday.
Two policemen and a servitor were injured in the attack. The police rescued the tourist and took him to the police station for questioning.
The foreign national identified as Thomas Craze Sheldon, a citizen of UK, also created a ruckus inside the police station.
Thomas was drunk heavily and created a ruckus at sea beach near Swarga Dwar in the morning. He was overpowered by police and taken to the Sea Beach police station. However, he was released on an undertaking.
During the noon hour, he again attempted to enter the 12th-century shrine in an inebriated condition while a servitor and police personnel resisted him. He attacked the police and servitors for opposing him to enter the temple.
Thomas was captured and taken to the Town police station. The drunk tourist also allegedly broke the window glass while the police were verifying his records. He also hit his head to the window following which he suffered injuries on his head.
Police have admitted him to Puri district headquarters hospital for treatment.
Police launched an investigation after examining the CCTV footage.
