Mayurbhanj: A joint team of the Forest Department and the Similipal Tiger Reserve has undertaken simultaneous raids in the Thakurmunda and Dudhuani Ranges of Karanjia Forest in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district and seized large quantities of antlers, deer, and sambar horns.
The joint team has also arrested six wildlife smugglers during the raids.
Acting on a tip-off that wildlife smuggling is rampant in the region, the joint team raided the Thakurmunda and Dudhuani Range areas of Karanjia Forest. During the raids, 4.5 kg lightning rods were seized from Khaprakahi village in Thakurmunda Range Khaprakhai two accused were arrested. At the same time, the joint team seized eight deer horns and six sambar horns from Padmpur village near Yashipur in Dadhuani Range and arrested four accused, said Shrikant Naik, Karanjia Forest Officer.
