Nabarangpur: Forest Department officials today rescued a two-month-old bear cub from under a culvert near the busy Khuntia chhak under Nandahandi block of Nabarangpur district.
“We had set up the trap to rescue both the mama bear and its cub. As we observed that the bear was unable to move out with its cub for a long time we had intended to shift both the mama bear and its cub elsewhere,” said Dhananjay Mohapatra, Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF) Nabarangpur.
Mohapatra said that the rescue team found that the mama bear was not visiting its cub and the latter’s condition was critical.
“It was suffering from dehydration so we rescued it. We have kept it at the deer park. It is being provided with medical treatment and its health condition is improving. We will keep it for a few days and after a medical check-up, it will be released into the wild,” the ACF explained.
