Dhenkanal/Cuttack: The female elephant that created havoc in Jagatpur area of Cuttack city and killed two persons apart from damaging properties has been shifted to the elephant rescue-cum-rehabilitation centre at Kapilash in Dhenkanal district today.
The female elephant, which was a member of a three-member herd of Khuntuni forest and had strayed away into Jagatpur.
Forest department staff after tranquillizing it on Wednesday shifted it to rescue-cum-rehabilitation centre at Kapilash as it was suffering from dehydration and had a few wounds on its body.
Currently, the rescue centre has eight elephants including this female elephant.
The rescue centre for elephants at Kapilash is the second such facility in the State after Chandaka. Established in 2010, the centre spreading over 25 hectare of forest land, has the capacity to house 15 elephants.
The State government bears the daily expenses of the centre. Besides, the Centre also provides funds for development activities at the facility.
