Kendrapara: A trawler driver from Rattapang village near Rajkanika in Kendrapara district died suddenly while on night patrol duty for the Forest Department in the Bay of Bengal.
While the exact reason behind his death is still unclear, cardiac arrest is being cited as a possible cause.
According to Maiti’s son, Babuli, the patrolling was part of an effort to protect rare olive ridley turtles. The forest department had seized a trawler that was illegally fishing in the Gahirmatha Marine Sanctuary. The incident occurred around 12 midnight, when Maiti drank water due to thirst and suddenly felt chest pain, collapsing shortly after.
He was immediately taken to the Rajnagar Community Health Centre, where he was declared dead.
Maiti had been working for the forest department for the last 10-12 years, his son said.
