Dhenkanal: A member of the Forest Department’s elephant squad was critically injured in a jumbo attack today near Gahamkhunti village under Dhenkanal Sadar Forest Range.
The injured squad member identified as Biswaranjan Panigrahi has been admitted to the district headquarters hospital here in a critical condition.
According to reports, Panigrahi was attacked by the tusker while he was trying to tranquillize it for treatment.
A tusker with an injured front right leg with blood oozing from it was seen moving in the Tikili Pokhari area near Gahamkhunti village for the last three days. The tusker was suspected to have been injured by a poacher’s bullet.
