Bhubaneswar: A forest department personnel sustained 70 per cent injuries while dousing fire in a forest near Brahmani hill under the Kuanrmunda range in Sundargarh district today.
The injured forest guard is Samar Oram. However, the three other team members, Bisra Oram, Bipin Minz, and Chama Oram had a close shave as they escaped without injuries.
Upon receiving an alert about the wildfire in the reserve forest, a four-member team of Forest Department of Forest guards Samar, Bisra, Bipin and Chama quickly sprang into action to contain the blaze, said sources
Samar was trying to douse the flames when strong winds suddenly pushed the flames towards him. As a result, Samar sustained severe burns on his body parts and the equipment he used to fight the fire was also damaged, according to reports.
Despite the challenges, the team’s prompt response helped prevent further damage.
Samar was admitted to Rourkela Government Hospital where he is undergoing. His condition is stated to be critical.
