Baripada: A Forester was shot dead by poachers at Karanjia in Mayurbhanj district on Friday. The deceased, Mati Hansda, was a Forester posted in the Barahakumuda range in Simlipal.
An exchange of fire broke out between forest personnel and poachers on Friday night during patrolling Gamuchajharan. They were present at the camp when around 6 poachers came towards the camp and engaged in an exchange of fire, said RCCF Simlipal, Dr PC Gogineni.
We will go to the spot and conduct an independent inquiry on this case, he added. Hansda sustained a bullet injury on his chest and succumbed at Karanjia Hospital. A police case has been registered in this connection and an investigation has started.
