Bhubaneswar: The Vigilance on Thursday arrested Forester Ghanashyam Sabar who was held by the agency sleuths yesterday with huge amount of cash. Sabar, a forester in Komna Section under Khariar forest division in Nuapada district, has been booked under Sections 13(2) and 13(1)(b) of Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
The anti-corruption agency, based on a tip-off, intercepted Sabar with Rs 5.05 lakh while he was going to Khariar town on his motorcycle.
Sabar could not account for the cash satisfactorily, the Vigilance said. Following this, searches were launched on his quarter and other locations which led to the discovery of Rs 8 lakh in cash. Rs 80,000 was recovered from his office table drawer during the search.
All total, cash recovered and seized in this case was Rs 13.85 lakh, which the forester could not account for satisfactorily. He was forwarded to the court today, the Vigilance added.
