Bhubaneswar: A former Assistant Engineer with the Rural Works Sub-Division in Pattamundai, Kendrapara district, has been dismissed from government service with immediate effect. The decision follows his conviction by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Cuttack, in a bribery case.
Srikanta Kumar Mahunta was convicted on September 24, 2024, and sentenced to four years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a contractor. The bribe was allegedly taken to facilitate measurement and check measurement of a road construction project under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
After his conviction, Odisha Vigilance communicated the matter to the competent authority, recommending appropriate action. Consequently, Mahunta was dismissed from government service on May 21, 2025, as per the provisions of the Odisha Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1962.
